Within the following article, we will be going over a task that all Administrators well use at one point or another; and that is Adding Users in Bulk.
***Keep In Mind***
When adding Users in bulk, all your users will have the same settings that you specify. So if you are going to be added Administrators and End Users, it is recommend that you add them separately. This also goes for Users in different locations, Users that will have different licenses, users that will have different permissions.
To begin, you will want to open up a new web browser and navigate to portal.microsoftonline.com. You’ll need to sign in using either a Global Administrator Account or a User Management Administrator account.
Once you have signed in, you will want to click on Users and Groups, located at the left hand side of your screen.
From the User and Groups page, you’ll need to click on the Bulk Add button. The Bulk add Button is located just right of the Add button.
Once you have clicked on the Bulk Add button, you will be brought to the Select a CSV File page. Click on Download a Sample CSV File. Once downloaded, go ahead and open the CSV file that you just downloaded. Within the CSV File you will be able to add your New Users Information. There are only 2 fields that are require for Office 365 to successfully create your Users.
- Display Name
- User Name
Remember to save your file as a CSV File (Comma Delimited).
Click on Browse and select your CSV File, click Next, to upload your users.
Within the Verification Results page, you will be told if your Users were successfully created or not. If they were not created, click on View, next to Log File. From here, you will see what-was the issue for any Users that were not created.
Click Next, you will be brought to the Users Settings page. Within the User Settings page, you will be able to give all your newly created Users the same settings.
It is recommend that you do not set any Administrative roles at this time. Set the User Location and click on Next.
If you have Multiple Licenses, you will not be able to select specific Licenses for each Users. All Users that are being added at this time, will need to have the same License.
Select a License that you wish for your Users to have and click on Next.
You will be asked to enter an email to send the results to – by default your email address will appear within this box. Click next and you will see the results for your newly created user.
