If you are migrating to Office 365, then you may be wonder as to just how to migrate your current Email to Office 365. One way to migrate all of your Emails to Office 365 is by doing a PST Migration. Now there’s a few things to keep in mind when doing a PST Migration. The larger your mailbox, the higher the chances are that you will have corrupted emails.
Another thing to keep in mind – is that when you are doing a PST Migration, you are using your Internet Bandwidth. Meaning, that if you have a large PST file which you are trying to migrate over to Office 365 and have slow upload speed; then a simple task of moving a 4-5GB PST file may take some time to complete.
Below, you will find the steps on how to Export a PST file from Outlook 2007, then we will discuss how to Import a PST file back into Outlook 2007.
To export a PST file, you will first want to open Outlook 2007. Once Outlook 2007 is opened, click on File. From the drop down menu select Import and Export…
The Import and Export Wizard will appear. Select Export to a File and click Next.
Under Create a file type, select Personal Folder File (.pst), then click on Next to continue.
Next within the “Select the folder to export from:” section, you will want to select your entire mailbox, so that you can keep your Folder structure. Otherwise, if you only select your Inbox – only your Inbox will be exported. Click on Include Subfolder and then click Next.
You will now be asked to select a location to save your PST file to. Click on Browse and select a place that is easy for you to remember. Since we will be importing the file into Office 365, we will be saving our PST file onto our Desktop. Click on Do not export duplicate items and click Finish.
A Window will appear that is called “Create Microsoft Personal Folders”. This Windows will ask you to enter a password for your PST file. You don’t need to create a password, but if you want to have added security on your PST file then you can add a Password and click OK.
Your PST file will now start to Export, please do not close Outlook 2007 while the PST Export is going.
If you are going to Import your PST file into your Office 365 Exchange account, then you will first have to configure your Office 365 Exchange account within outlook 2007. Or if you have a Office ProPlus License, you will first need to Install Office 2013, then configure your Office 365 Exchange account within Outlook 2013 and finally Import your PST file. Within this Article we are assuming that you will stay on Outlook 2007.
To begin importing your PST file into Outlook 2007, you will first want to configure your Exchange account within Outlook 2007. Once you have finished configuring your Office 365 Exchange account, go ahead and open Outlook 2007. Next click on File and then on Import and Export…
From the Window that appears click on Import from another program or file, and then click on next.
Under “Select file type to import from:” select Personal Folder File (.pst), you may have to scroll down to see this option. Click Next to continue.
Under File to Import, click on Browse and navigate to the PST file you exported earlier. Under Options select, Do not import duplicates and click Next.
Under the Select the Folder to Import From, select Personal Folders. This should be the very top of your PST file. Make sure that Include Subfolders is checked and then click on Import Items into the same folder in: and select your Office 365 Mailbox.
If you are using this as your Migration Method to move Emails from a previous email solution to Office 365. Then leave Outlook 2007 open as you still need to push all of your emails to Office 365. Depending on your Upload Speed, this can take some time to accomplish.
