So there is a topic going around that is making many without much knowledge of technology a little scared.
So what is ransomware anyway?
Well a big topic in the news right now is a report that hackers got a hold of Disney’s new Pirates of the Caribbean film and are holding it for a sum of money, or a “ransom”, if you will.
Basically, ransomware is a virus sent by hackers via unsolicited e-mail that latches onto your data and hold it by using an encryption and claim to give it back if you give them money.
These ransomware viruses like to disguise themselves as something you would want to click on such as :
“We have found a virus on your system, click here to fix”
“Legal authorities have detected strange activity in your area”
DON’T fall for these. These are to make you think that something may be wrong with your system, so you hastily click.
